Tension in Gujarat town

Ahmedabad: Tension gripped Chikali town of Navsari district in South Gujarat after members of two communities clashed over the issue of cow slaughter here on Friday, police said. Additional police forces had been rushed to the town after members of both the communities pelted stones at each other.

No casualties had been reported, officials added.

This is the second such incident in the South Gujarat region in the last few weeks.

On September 18, similar communal rioting took place in Mangrol taluka of neighbouring Surat district, after a local leader of Gau Raksha Samiti (cow protection unit) was killed in Kosadi village. — PTI
