Assistance distributed to differently-abled children; book of poems released

PUDUKOTTAI: A series of programmes was held under the auspices of the Mahatma Gandhi Samooga Nalaperavai here to mark Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2.
The programmes included painting, essay and elocution competitions for students, seminar on Gandhiji’s life, distribution of assistance to differently-abled children and honouring freedom fighters.
‘Oru nadhiyin geetham,’ a collection of poems penned by Peravai founder and poet Vairanadhi was also released.
Releasing the book, Mohammed Mansur, lecturer, Jamal Mohammed College, said the poems conveyed a specific message directed towards the betterment of society.
Revolutionary ideas
Advocate K. Balasundaram and S. Subbiah, faculty from Alagappa University, offered felicitations.
They said the poems had revolutionary ideas with a social concern.
In his acceptance address, Mr. Vairanadhi described the impact of various calamities and wars on the human race. To tide over the sufferings, there was a strong case for promoting universal peace and brotherhood.
He saw poems as an effective tool to create awareness among the masses.
Tirumayam MLA R.M. Subburam gave away educational kits and other assistance to the differently-abled children.
