BERHAMPUR: Now revenue officials are reaching out to the villages to sort out the land related legal problems of peasants. It has been possible due to ‘Mo Jami Mo Diha’ (My land my homestead land) program initiated by the state government. This programme would continue from September 10 to Oct 10.

Despite continuous rains on Friday Berhampur tehsildar Sangram Panda could be seen holding a special session of office near Mahuri Kalua temple under the programme to hear land related grievances of people of 21 villages of seven panchyats of Kukudakhandi block Ganjam district. More than 500 persons had turned up daring the downpour. Mr Panda said they were mostly trying to intervene in cases where land of poor peasants had been taken over by any other persons. The landless of the area were also given land pattas. Land pass books were prepared on the spot and handed over to farmers. The administration had arranged food and shelter for the people attending the programme.

Awareness

The concerned revenue inspectors (RI) and Amins had visited villages for three days with traditional drummers to create awareness about this effort of the Government and administration. For rural public it was surely a rare occasion. And they came up with all other grievances other than land related problems before the officials.

The Kukudakhandi Block Development Officer (BDO) was also present at the spot. So, people did not forget to utter a few words regarding issue of BPL cards, defunct tube wells and bad condition of roads at the village. The tehsildar promised to initiate action to award pattas to a group of persons staying on unused government land since decades. Investigation was initiated regarding a case where a plot granted to a landless was taken over for construction of a road.

All tehsildars of the state would hold a series of ‘Mo Jami Mo Diha’ programme in their respective areas. They would have to investigate the complaints and take necessary measures within two months. It is hoped that this move would reduce land related clashes and disputes in rural areas to large extent in the State, which are misused by miscreants including naxals.
