CUTTACK: Liberated Childhood Movement, a campaign launched by some eminent persons of the city and a consortium of NGOs, has given a call for State bandh on October 9 in order to ‘internalize’ the provisions of Child labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act. The bandh is observed exactly after a year the Central Government banned child labour in domestic sectors or in roadside food joints, restaurants, hotels, motels, teashops, resorts, spas and other recreational centers. "Ironically, even after the ban, children continue to work in these sectors due to soft approach of enforcement agencies," alleges Bikash Das, convener of the Movement. "With a view to do some constructive work for abolition of child labour we have given the bandh call. The bandh cannot be equated with other bandh calls given by political leaders", Mr. Das said adding that the bandh on Tuesday would not paralyse normal life.
