State told to ensure implementation of NHRM Mobile phones to be given for health workers BHUBANESWAR: A team of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday stressed the need for measures to check diarrhoea deaths, female foeticide, malaria and filariasis in the State. The team members also emphasised for proper implementation of the programmes under the National Rural Health Mission in the interior pockets of the State. Apart from the Union Health Ministry team, those who attended the review meeting include State Health Department’s Principal Secretary Chinmay Basu, Mission Director of NHRM in the State Sushil Kumar Lohani and Chief District Medical Officers from different districts. The visit of the Central team assumed importance in the wake of the unearthing of large scale female foeticide, fake medicine trade and large number of deaths due to diarrhoea and cholera in the districts of Rayagada, Koraput and Kalahandi. Speaking of the occasion, Additional Secretary Deepak Gupta said that the State government should maintain village-wise information bank for the smooth implementation of various health programmes. Mr. Gupta said that the Accredited Social Health Activists identified under the NRHM should be imparted training to deal with cases of malaria and diarrhoea at the village level. He informed that the Centre was contemplating to make provision of mobile phones for the health workers working under anti-malaria and other health programmes. This would help in timely delivery of healthcare to the people at large.
