PERAMBALUR: The district administration has recommended 51 village panchayats for the President’s ‘Nirmal Gram Puraskar’ award in recognition of their outstanding implementation of rural health and sanitation programmes during this year, Collector Anil Meshram said here on Friday.
Addressing a review meeting of the on-going water supply and health care programmes in the district, he said based on the district administration’s recommendation the Central teams would inspect the village panchayats in order to assess their performance.
He urged officials and panchayat union chairpersons to expedite the execution of works on rural water supply and construction of individual toilets.
He said the Centre had released Rs.2.14 crore for setting up solid waste management units in rural areas. The district administration had planned to implement the scheme in all the 51 village panchayats.
Administrative sanction had been accorded for the construction of toilets in 104 anganwadis at an expenditure of Rs.5.20 lakh each under the Sampoorna Grama Yojana Scheme.
On the construction of individual and community toilets, the Collector said that a total of 2.77 lakhs toilets had been sanctioned for households and schools, of which 1.63 lakh toilets had so far been completed.
He urged the officials to complete the works on a priority basis.
District Revenue Officer B. Shankar and Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, Ramaswamy were among those who participated in the meeting.
