Central team visits Davangere district to assess flood damage

Staff Correspondent

It spent one-and-a-half hours in the district before heading for Shimoga

Government has not released any funds for

relief measures

Funds diverted from various other heads to

help those affected

DAVANGERE: The Central team, which arrived here to assess the damage caused by floods in the district, completed its survey of flood-hit villages in just one and a half hours and left for neighbouring Shimoga district.

The team was to have visited two taluks — Harihar and Honnali — to assess flood damage. Though there was considerable damage in Harpanahalli, which bore the brunt of the floods, it was left out as the study team had no time to visit the area. But, of the two taluks, it visited only three villages in Harihar taluk. The team visited Nandigudi, Holesirigere and Govinahalu villages, but spent hardly 10 minutes in each.

The members said they would rely on the compact disc to be given to it by the district administration on the flood damage.

The floods occurred about a month ago, and the district administration, despite not being allocated funds for relief measures, diverted funds from various other heads to help those affected.

Reports

Dinesh Chand, Deputy Director in the Union Ministry of Rural Development, a member of the team, told presspersons that reports would be submitted to the Union Government by the two teams sent to the State.

A report would also be submitted on the flood damage caused in the State as whole, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Davangere district M.B. Dyaberi, Chief Executive Officer of the Davangere Zilla Panchayat Nijalingappa, headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Bettasurmutt, Assistance Commissioner of Davangere division Janaki and tahsildars of the taluks concerned accompanied the team.
