Staff Correspondent

Projects for Himachal envisaged

SHIMLA: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh is visiting Washington early next week for talks with senior World Bank officials about projects for the hill State.

Meetings arranged

An official spokesman said here on Friday that the Union Finance Ministry has arranged meetings of the Chief Minister with top executives of the World Bank to discuss ongoing World Bank-assisted projects in Himachal Pradesh as well as new project appraisals that are in the pipeline.

World Bank loans have proved very “beneficial” to Himachal Pradesh since they come in the form of 90 per cent grant through the Government of India, the spokesman said. A development policy loan of $ 200 million has been approved by the World Bank recently for the hill State.

Additional proposal

An additional project proposal of $ 412 million under Phase II of the State road projects would also be raised at the meeting, said the spokesman.
