NEW DELHI: A delegation of Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) office-bearers met Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental on Friday to demand rejection of a proposal of the Union Cabinet and the Delhi Government for handing over the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) to the latter.
“DUTA has expressed its anger and anguish over the proposal worked out by the Union Cabinet and the Delhi Government without first inviting the views of the statutory bodies of Delhi University responsible for creating, maintaining and running of UCMS,” said DUTA president Aditya Narayan Misra in a statement.
“The UCMS was established pursuant to and on the basis of the proposal from Delhi University. As a medical college requires an attached hospital for the purposes of training students, initially Safdarjung Hospital and subsequently Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital were attached to UCMS. Right from its inception, UCMS has been run and controlled by the University,” he said.
