NELLORE: The Railway police posted Inspector of Police Bhaskar Naidu as Investigation Officer to probe in to the role of a railway police constable behind the theft of Rs. 4.95 lakh from a passenger of Tirupati bound Tirumala Express on Tuesday night. The accused N Sudhakar, however, escaped from the railway police station at Nellore during an enquiry on Wednesday. According to Superintendent of Police, Railways, Guntakal, M. Naganna, suspicion on Sudhakar strengthened after some railway protection force constables on duty on Tuesday night as well as some passengers of Tirumala Express told the police that they had seen Sudhakar jumping out of the moving train at Nellore carrying the bag under question. But the accused however, said that the bag contained ganja, which was sent to S. Prasad working as a Sub Inspector at Gudur railway police station. “Prasad, who is a close friend of Sudhakar, denied the charge stating that the ganja bag is still with Sudhakar.” Close questioning led to another startling revelation that both Prasad and Sudhakar were allegedly involved in ganja smuggling since a long time. Realising that he was left with no other option than to admit to the crime, Sudhakar managed to escape from the Railway Police station during questioning on Wednesday much to the shock of the police officials and his colleagues. Meanwhile, the police filed cases against both Sudhakar and Prasad besides suspending both of them. .
