Making police computer-savvy

Four-day training for policemen in computer engineering launched


Training offered as per the MoU signed between police and JNTU

Computers can help police work more efficiently and maintain records


Sangareddy: Classes in computer engineering for a batch of 30 policemen drawn from different parts of Medak district began at one of the six computer labs of DVR College of Technology at Kandi here on Friday.

The four-day training is in accordance to the memorandum of understanding reached between the Police Department and the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) to use some of the finest computer engineering facilities of its affiliated colleges for the men in uniform. Introducing the policemen to the training, Laxmipathi, principal of the college, said that computer-based policing would certainly improve the image of the police.

He pointed out that computers would not only make the police work more efficiently but also help them maintain records in an organized way. He called upon the policemen to use the communication, electrical, electronic labs of the college for better policing and investigations.

Useful in investigation

Launching the programme, Mushtaq Ahmad, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sangareddy, said that the first batch would receive computer skills which they could use right from filing an FIR till the time the suspect was acquitted.
