CHENNAI: Aromatic shirts and cotton and silk saris in eye-catching colours and designs are among the attractions at the Co-optex Deepavali sale inaugurated at the showroom on Pantheon Road, Egmore, on Friday.

The ‘Adukkuthukhil’ sari woven from silk and zari is among the more expensive offerings. Instead of thread, cloth has been woven together to create a sari with a design formed by zari on one side and by silk on the reverse.

The price is Rs. 40,000.

Cotton and silk saris are available in prices ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs. 2,000. Products from weavers in Kancheepuram, Vellore, Dindigul and Tiruchi, among other centres, are on display.

Aromatic shirts in jasmine, rose and lavender fragrances, besides marbled and denim shirts are also available.

The shirts would retain their aroma for up to 50 washes, Co-optex representatives said.

The shirts are priced from Rs. 266 upward.

Handlooms Minister N.K.K.P. Raja inaugurated the sale on Friday. Co-optex has set a target of Rs. 50 crore for this festival season of Deepavali, Ramzan and Navaratri, he told reporters.
