CHENNAI: The flyover coming up in front of the Chennai airport will be ready by December, an official of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said on Friday.
The construction work was held up for over three months due to land acquisition problems, the official said. Various government agencies and a few private parties owned property along the stretch. The acquisition issues would be sorted out soon.
The flyover would have four spans and concrete works on two of the spans would be completed within a fortnight.
Once the work is completed on the four spans, work on the approach road would be taken up. The construction work began in 2005.
The length of the flyover would be 980 metres. A viaduct would be constructed up to a distance of 605 metres. The carriageway would have three lanes. While vehicles heading towards Guindy from Pallavaram could take the flyover, those intending to enter the airport would be provided a separate lane.
The NHAI authorities have sought the help of traffic police personnel to regulate movement of vehicles and people near the flyover site.
