TN cash award for Anand

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday announced that the State government would give Rs. 25 lakh to World chess champion Viswanathan Anand.

Anand won the title for a second time in Mexico City on September 29.

A release said that the Chief Minister congratulated Anand and said that the victory had added glory to the State.

Other cash awards

Mr. Karunanidhi also distributed at the Secretariat incentive amounts to those who had won medals in the Commonwealth Games at Melbourne and the South Asian Games in Sri Lanka.

A total of 38 sports persons were awarded a total of Rs. 1.32 crore. — Special Correspondent
