TOKYO: Venus Williams survived a scare before beating Danish teenager Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 7-5 in the semifinals of the Japan Open here on Friday, while former men’s world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt was knocked out. Fourth-seeded Hewitt, from Australia, crashed to seventh seed Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6(5), 7-6(6) in the quarterfinals. In Saturday’s final, Venus will take on fifth seed Virginie Razzano of France, who defeated eighth seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy 4-6 7-5 6-3.
