DD, AIR staff to get Central benefits

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Group of Ministers (GoM) on Prasar Bharati on Friday decided to treat all employees of Doordarshan and All India Radio under Prasar Bharati as Central government employees and extend them the same benefits.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told journalists after a meeting of the GoM that the government was also prepared to amend the Prasar Bharati Act related to service conditions to remove the ambiguity that had affected government employees working on deputation with the public broadcaster after it was made an autonomous organisation.

About 40,000 employees of Prasar Bharati were affected because of the ambiguity and the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.

A committee, headed by the I&B Secretary, will look into the differences in the service conditions of Prasar Bharati employees vis-À-vis other government employees to plug the loopholes.
