REVIEW MEETING: An emergency meeting to review the revival schemes of roads in Thiruvananthapuram district held in the Durbar Hall of the Secretariat on Friday. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Public Works Department has been directed to complete emergency repair of damaged roads in the district by October 15. The direction was issued at a meeting convened by Law Minister M.Vijayakumar and Food Minister C.Divakaran here on Friday to review the progress of road works. The other repair and maintenance are to be completed by the end of the month, the meeting decided. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Vijayakumar warned of stern action against officials responsible for delay in executing works. He said the PWD Task Force led by an Executive Engineer would monitor the progress of the work every two days. A weekly meeting is to be convened by the ministers to review the situation. MLAs were asked to submit the priority list of road works in their constituency. The PWD Roads Chief Engineer who participated in the meeting said only 98 of the 519 road works in the district had been completed. The Government had sanctioned an amount of Rs.23 crores for road repair in the district. Pannian Ravindran MP, MLAs G.Karthikeyan, Anathalavattam Anandan, Arundhati, Mangode Radhakrishnan, Selvaraj, Sakthan, Varkala Kahar, M.A.Vahid, N.Rajan, V.J.Thankappan, V.Surendran Pillai and V.Sivankutty, Mayor C. Jayan Babu, District Collector N. Ayyappan and senior PWD officials were present. Later, talking to reporters, Mr.Vijayakumar said all categories of roads, including major district roads, State highway, other district roads and village roads would be taken up for maintenance in view of the heavy damage and the delay in carrying out repair works.
