BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch sleuths on Friday unearthed an inter-State cricket betting racket in the city, said to have been operated by using credit cards. The police have arrested one person and are on the lookout for others involved in the racket. According to the police, the accused, Kushal Kothari (31), was running the racket from his house in Vasant Nagar 6th Cross. He was in touch with bookies and maintained details in his laptop. “There was no physical exchange of money. It was all done using credit cards,” said an officer investigating the case. The sleuths kept a close watch on the movement of Kothari, who was working in a shop at Chickpet. A CCB team raided the house and recovered Rs. 5,240, nine mobile phones, one laptop, two television sets and a tape recorder. The sleuths also recovered the book in which the accused physically made entries for transactions worth Rs. 45 lakh. During the inquiry, Kothari revealed that he was betting on behalf of Dilip Tiwari of Rajasthan. Run overSultan Rao Sindhia (52), a City Armed Reserve constable, died when he was run over by a car near Jakkur Aerodrome on Thursday night. According to the police, Sindhia was hit by the car while he was returning from work. He Sindhia was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Dies in accidentA 40-year-old man died when he was hit by a private bus near Magadi Road police station on Friday. The police said the incident occurred when the victim was crossing the road near Prasanna cinema. The victim has not yet been identified. SuicideTwo women allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night. Bhagawati (20), a second year B.Ed. student, was found dead in a room at Cauvery hostel in Sahakaranagar. The police said Bhagawati consumed poison. The Yelahanka police have registered a case. Brahmini (22), a housewife was found dead in her house at Jagadish Nagar in HAL police station limits. The police said Brahmini hanged herself from the ceiling. The HAL police have registered a case. ElectrocutedA 36-year-old man was electrocuted in Krishnamurthynagar in Byappanahalli police station limits on Friday. The victim Srinivas, a labourer, accidentally touched the electric coil used for boiling water. Srinivas died on the spot, the police said.
