Formation: A dance performance by students at IGNIZ 07, a techno-cultural festival, organised by students of the SCMS School of Engineering and Technology in Kochi on Saturday. KOCHI: The colours of youth and hope left an indelible mark at IGNIZ 07, a techno-cultural fest for colleges that concluded here on Saturday. Rockers earned thunderous applause on a day when dance and music ruled the hearts of all who turned up at the Kalamassery Municipal Town hall, the venue of the event. The Western Music bands teams were energetic to the point of exuberance, super-charging the entire show. In a close finish, Government Engineering College, Thrissur, walked away with top honours. Model Engineering College, Thrikkakara, was the runner-up. Eight teams participated in the competition that had prize money of Rs.15,000. When the rockers left the stage, it was the turn of fusion music buffs to hog the limelight. And they did it in style. Music mixThe event was a mix of eastern and western music. Students of Model Engineering College overcame stiff competition from the hosts (SCMS School of Engineering and Technology) to bag the first prize. The much-awaited fashion show failed to impress, as only two teams participated in the event (despite the prize money of Rs.15,000). The team from Federal Institute of Science and Technology proved that they were better in style statement than rival Saintgits College of Engineering. Engineering talentIGNIZ also provided an opportunity for students of SCMS School of Engineering and Technology to display their engineering talents. Students of mechanical and automobile branches came up with wave electricity generation projects (miniature model of tidal plant implemented in Scotland using Well’s turbine). Miniatures of thermal power plant, hydro-electric power plant, electric train and rocket launcher were showcased by students of the electrical branch. Land gamingE-Lounge presented by Synergy (Computer Science association of the college) included land gaming and hardware dissembled display. Simple function generator, digital number shooting game and security systems with auto-positioning laminas and doors were displayed by students of electronics and communication department. Media partnerFederal Bank, under the banner Yuvamitra (an account scheme for the youth), sponsored IGNIZ 07. The Hindu Education Plus was the official print media partner while Yes Indiavision was the official channel partner.
