Allegations against Hitech City unfortunate, says Karim

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has described as “unfortunate” the allegations against the Hitech City being set up in Kochi by the Sobha Group.

In a press release here on Saturday, he said that nobody who was interested in the development of the State could justify it. The Hitech City would provide direct employment to 75,000 persons. The company had bought the land for it at Marad.

The government and the company had also signed a memorandum of understanding for implementing the project. The Sobha Group was one of the leading companies in the State. It was because of the special interest taken by the Malayali chairman of the company P.N.C. Menon that it was investing Rs.5,000 crore in the State. No sane person should dub such entrepreneurs as mafia, he said.

He said the government was out to attract private investment in a big way to Kerala to solve the unemployment problem. Nobody should act in a manner which would scuttle those efforts. He called for putting an end to baseless allegations against those who came forward to make investments.
