KOCHI: In a significant development, the State government has decided to freeze all sorts of land transactions in the 26-km-stretch from Puthuvypeen to Malliyankara, falling within the alignment of the proposed coastal highway, with immediate effect. The government notification in this regard will be issued soon, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish told reporters on Saturday. The decision comes just a day after the Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan convened a meeting of all prospective stakeholders to discuss the funding pattern of the project. The highway, with an estimated cost of Rs.219.85 crore, is proposed to start from Kalamukku junction in Vypeen, moves through the Special Economic Zone area and reaches Munambam through Malliyankara bridge.
