Jaisalmer bandh turns violent

Jodhpur: Eight huts belonging to members of a particular community and two vehicles were set ablaze as a bandh called by saffron outfits in Jaisalmer district to protest an alleged incident of cow slaughter turned violent on Saturday, police said.

Prohibitory orders were imposed after groups of youths torched a truck, a jeep and a shop in Union Circle locality of the city and set the huts afire in Amrasagar area, some five kms away, police said.

Normal life was hit during the bandh called by VHP, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena demanding appropriate action against those allegedly involved in cow slaughter in Chatrel village of the district on Monday.

Police have already arrested three persons over the alleged incident.

“Some incidents of violence have been reported, but the situation is now under control,” a police officer said. Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed and additional police force has been deployed in the city, he said.
