“Without funds, the State Govt. cannot move forward” “Grants not reaching those in rural areas” Rourkela: If the BJD-BJP Government of Orissa fails to implement Central schemes “properly and honestly”, the Centre will stop providing funds, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Chandrasekhar Sahu said here on Saturday. “Without Central funds, the Orissa Government cannot move an inch forward but it is a pity that people are deprived of their benefits provided by the Union Government,” Sahu said while addressing a Congress rally here. Mr. Sahu said the Centre had been providing maximum grants in its various schemes but alleged it was not reaching the people living in rural and far off places. Responding to allegations of several senior Congress leaders of Sundargarh district that none of the central funded schemes was being implemented, the Minister said he would personally review the implementation of the central schemes in all the 30 districts after Durga Puja. The Congress leaders alleged that funds were being diverted and even utilised for other purposes. Claiming the UPA Government was doing maximum for the poor and rural development, he said many new schemes had been introduced and another new scheme for providing old age pension to all BPL card holders attaining age of 65 would be introduced on November 19, coinciding with the birthday of Indira Gandhi. Similarly, health insurance for family members of unorganised sector will be unveiled soon, he said. -- PTI
