6.81 lakh tonnes paddy procured

Chandigarh: A total of 6.81 lakh metric tons of paddy has arrived in 179 wholesale markets of Haryana so far this year.

Of this, six government procurement agencies have procured 3.95 lakh tons of paddy, while private millers have purchased 2.85 lakh tons, State Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said in a release.

The purchase of paddy had been started from September 26. The Minister said a sum of Rs. 985 crore has been arranged as cash credit.

While enumerating the details of purchase of paddy made by the six government agencies, he said HAFED had procured 1.71 lakh tons, the Food and Supplies Department 1.28 lakh tons, the Agro Industries Corporation 49,265 tons, Confed 36,411 tons, the Haryana Warehousing Corporation 8755 tons and the Food Corporation of India 950 tons.

Mr. Chander Mohan said Kurukshetra district topped with arrivals totalling 2.35 lakh tons, followed by Karnal (1.56 lakh tons), Kaithal (85,000 lakh tons), Fatehabad (83,000 tons), Ambala (39,000 tons), Sirsa (28,000 tons) and Yamunanagar (25,000 tons).

He said payment to the farmers was being made within 48-72 hours and the Government was providing Rs. 675 per quintal to them as the Minimum Support Price.

The State Government had fixed a procurement target of 20 lakh tons for this year, the Minister said. – PTI
