Daily wagers to be insured

Kanpur: The Kanpur Municipal Corporation has announced insurance benefits for its daily wage earning staff.

These workers will avail the benefit of insurance of Rs 1 lakh by the civic body, city Mayor Ravindra Patni said here on Saturday.

“The corporation is working with the Life Insurance Corporation to enrol all the 2,500 workers in sanitary, engineering, lighting and other departments under an insurance policy. The premium amount will be paid by the corporation,” he said.

This will cost Rs 2.5 lakh annually to the corporation’s exchequer, he added. -- PTI
