COLOMBO: Akhila Ilankai Tamil United Front (AITUF), a political organisation in Sri Lanka, has welcomed the proposals made by the principal opposition party in the island nation, United National Party (UNP) for “credible power sharing” to resolve the ethnic conflict in the nation. In a statement issued here, the general secretary of the AITUF, K. Vigneswaran, said it is clear that the party recognises that the causes leading to the separatist war in Sri Lanka required a negotiated political solution. “Such a solution must address the grievances of the Tamils, the fears of the Muslims in the north-east regarding ethnic cleansing and the concerns of a section of the Sinhalese.”
