SEZ for clean energy equipment

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Ministry for New and Renewable Energy has received proposals from half a dozen States including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for setting up a Special Economic Zone for manufacture of equipment for clean energy at an estimated cost of Rs. 20,000 crore.

Speaking on the second day of the India Energy Summit organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here on Saturday, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Vilas Muttemwar said the location of the proposed SEZ was yet to be finalised.

“The estimated initial cost of the SEZ will be around Rs. 20,000 crore. The location would be finalised after taking into account factors such as central location, logistics availability and others related issues,” he added.

The Ministry would form a joint venture with the State Government and private players, who would be a part of the new SEZ.
