Bench seeks report from police

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: With the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) resolving to continue its court boycott and intensify the ongoing agitation, a Division Bench has directed the Joint Commissioner of Police inquiring into the matter to file a report on Monday.

A Division Bench, comprising Justice Elipe Dharma Rao and Justice S. Tamilvanan, gave the direction on a public interest litigation petition filed by G. Rajendran.

The petitioner, who is president of the Madras High Court Practising Advocates Association, sought interim compensation to advocates injured in the Stanley Hospital incident, besides a direction to the hospital administration to file a report about the treatment being given to them. He also wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to handle all cases involving advocates and police in the State.
