St. Mary’s Centenary JC triumphs

HYDERABAD: St. Mary’s Centenary Junior College (Secunderabad) and St. Ann’s Junior College for Girls (Mehdipatnam) clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the St. Mary’s inter-college basketball tournament, conducted in connection with the institution’s silver jubilee celebrations here on Saturday.

Rohit of St. Mary’s in boys’ and Preethi of St. Ann’s in girls’, were adjudged best players of the tournament.

The results (finals): Boys: St. Mary’s Centenary JC (Secunderabad) 43 (Rohit 18, Aditya 9) bt Wesley JC (Paradise) 41 (David 23, Moses 10).

Girls: St. Ann’s JC for Girls (Mehdipatnam) 49 (Preethi 30, Babitha 10) bt Kasturba JC for Girls (Marredpally) 25 (Radhika 14).

Tejeswi shines

Tejeswi’s 62 for South Zone ‘B’ against Central ‘B’ was the highlight of the rain-curtailed final day’s play of the two-day ACA inter-zonal under-15 cricket tournament at Guntur on Saturday.

The Central ‘A’ and South ‘A’ match was washed out. Both the teams will play a one-day match on Sunday.

The scores: South Zone ‘B’ 149 for six in 68 overs (Tejeswi 62, Vinod Kumar 44, Murali three for 40) drew with Central Zone ‘B.’

Khushal is skipper

Khushal P. Jilla will lead Hyderabad in the South Zone U-19 one-day cricket tournament to be played in Thiruvananthapuram from October 20 to 26.

The players will have to report to the coach at Gymkhana Grounds from October 8 at 6.30 am for practice.

Delhi, Thane in last four

Delhi, Thane, Pune and Karnataka Police women’s teams entered the last four on the penultimate day of the all-India invitational kabaddi tournament for SAI-STC Centres at Gudivada on Saturday.

The results: League matches: Men: Secunderabad bt Mumbai 39-20, Chennai ‘A’ bt Bangalore 39-23, Salem bt Puducherry 35-18, Andhra ‘A’ bt Chennai ‘B’ 45-38, Secunderabad bt Trichur 38-4, Bangalore bt Puducherry 51-25.

Women: Pune bt Chennai 52-35, Delhi bt Gujarat 51-21, Karnataka Police bt Andhra 52-34, Pune bt Nellore 38-35.

State-level volleyball

The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. Sports Council will conduct the State-level TRANSCO & DISCOM volleyball tournament at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Shaikpet playground from October 7 to 9.

About 250 players representing 20 teams across the State will take part.

Flood-lit cricket

The Sports Coaching Foundation (Masab Tank) will organise the APSACS Cup flood-lit cricket tournament from October 8 to 15 in Hyderabad.
