11 killed in textile mill fire at Panipat; probe ordered
Panipat: Eleven persons were killed and three received burn injuries when a major fire broke out in a textile mill here on Sunday.
Ten of the 11 dead were labourers and had been identified, Deputy Commissioner Mahinder Kumar said. Most of them hailed from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
The exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained though police do not rule out short circuit.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Agarwal would conduct a probe, the Deputy Commissioner said.
Mr. Kumar said a case had been registered and two factory owners, one of them son of an ex-Minister, had been arrested.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced a compensation of Rs.1 lakh to each bereaved family.
The Deputy Commissioner said Rs.20,000 each would also be given to the next of kin of those killed in the blaze by the district Red Cross Society. — PTI
