Bangalore: Bangalore University’s Jnanabharathi campus was abuzz last week with the varsity’s youth festival “Yuvajanotsava 2007.” With teams from over 100 colleges participating in various competitive events, it was bound to generate a lot of heat, and of course fun. At the end of it all, Bangalore-based Kristu Jayanthi College walked away with the overall championship, while the team from V.V. Puram College was declared the runner-up. Giving away the prizes, the University Registrar Sanjay Veer Singh highlighted the relevance of such youth festivals in preserving the rich cultural integrity of the country. He said that active participation from the youth was the key to the success of such events.. His comparison of the aggression of cricketers and the students raised eyebrows, as he cited the case of Shreeshanth. He said the cricketer displayed an aggression on the field which was not reflected in his bowling. But the students actively and aggressively participated in all the events, many of them returning as winners, noted Mr. Singh. Karnataka Natak Academy president Srinivasa G. Kappanna felt that cultural festivals helped the personalities of students to blossom fully. He announced that a Janapada Mela would be conducted by the academy this year exclusively for college students.
