Preliminary works begin for construction of additional bus stand

POLLACHI: Preliminary works have begun for the construction of Pollachi additional bus stand, which was a long-pending demand of the people here.

Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to lay the foundation for the bus stand. The authorities have removed encroachments on the site a couple of days ago. Works are progressing to clear the bushes and samples have been collected for soil testing.

According to Municipal Commissioner C.T. Duraivelan, the bus stand will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore at the grounds in front of the existing bus stand and Sub-Collector’s office. With the increasing number of buses and travelling public, the existing bus stand has proved to be inadequate. Hence, the constriction of the new bus stand with 20 bays.

It will have 35 shops, free and pay-and-use toilets besides clockroom and other facilities. Mr. Stalin will also lay the foundation for the construction of classrooms at Municipal Government Girls Higher Secondary School at a cost of Rs. 4 crore. Tenders have been awarded for Rs. 9-crore water supply project.
