PALAKKAD: Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the Kalpathy Carnatic music festival, organised as part of the famous Kalpathy car festival, will be made a national festival. Handing over the first copy of a souvenir brought out by Swaralaya, a cultural organisation, as part of its dance and music festival to P. Unni, Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary at Fort Maidan here on Saturday, the Minister said the State government had written to the Union government to include the music festival in the list of national festivals. The Minister said that tourism spots in the district were being developed. The music and other art festivals of Palakkad were already attracting tourists. Swaralaya vice-president P. Jayapala Menon presided. —Staff Reporter
