Vital drops: Governor N.D. Tiwari administering polio drops to a toddler at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Sunday. HYDERABAD: About 93 per cent of the targeted 64 lakh children were administered polio drops in 14 districts in the State as part of the immunisation drive conducted on Sunday. With five polio cases reported this year –Visakhapatnam (3), East Godavari and Nalgonda (one each), immunisation was taken up in the districts and the adjoining areas, according to WHO guidelines. The districts in which the drive was conducted are Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, Guntur, Mahabubnagar, Hyderabad, Khammam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Ranga Reddy, Warangal and Nalgonda. According to Commissioner, Family Welfare, Anil Punetha, a few villages in Visakhapatnam and Khammam districts remained inaccessible due to heavy rain. The immunisation would be conducted when they become accessible. During the next two days, health officials will take up house-to-house verification to ensure that no child was left out. Teams deputedAs many as 14 medical surveillance officers deputed by WHO are touring the 14 districts to look into the efficacy and coverage of pulse polio programme held today. Governor N.D.Twari administered polio drops to children in Raj Bhavan, including his 16-month-old grand daughter, Chia. Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries participated in the programme in various districts.
