Pinarayi files case against former judge
Staff Reporter
THALASSERY: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has filed a criminal defamation case against retired High Court judge K. Sukumaran; Malayala Manorama Editor Mamman Mathew; printer and publisher Jacob Mathew and reporter of the newspaper.
Mr. Vijayan appeared before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Suresh Kumar Paul here and recorded his sworn statement on Saturday.
According to the complaint filed by the CPI(M) leader, the newspaper had published a report on July 7 quoting Mr. Sukumaran’s speech at a function.
The complainant said that the speech and the report were defamatory as it sought to malign the reputation he had acquired through his activities as a public worker. The magistrate posted the case for hearing on November 9.
