BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has reiterated that everything would be done to maintain peace and communal harmony in the State. The Chief Minister was speaking at a special function organised at Ravindra Bhawan here over the weekend to present the Indira Gandhi Awards for Communal Riots Prevention and Harmony for the year 2006. Mr. Chauhan said that the services of government servants, who would be setting an example by promoting and maintaining communal harmony, would be fully recognised. He presented the Indira Gandhi Award to the Minister for Public Works Department Kailash Vijaywargiya and officers who had played a key role in ensuring both Friday Namaz and Saraswati Pujan on Basant Panchami were held peacefully at Dhar’s Bhojshala on February 3 last year. The Chief Minister lauded the role played by Mr. Vijaywargiya and Shahar Quazi Mohammad Zaqa Ulla Khan in maintaining peace and harmony. The Award, carrying Rs. 15000 in cash and a citation, was also presented to the former Indore Commissioner Ashok Das, the IG of Police Shailendra Shrivastava, Collector R.K. Gupta and SP P.K. Mathur. The second award was presented to the then Khandwa SP D.C. Sagar; the then Khargone Range DIG of Police, Vipin Maheshwari, the then Jhabua SP, Umesh Joga and the former Dhar Additional Collector, Ramgopal Verma.
