KSRTC yet to decide on inter-State services

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation is having second thoughts on whether to increase the extent of its inter-State services to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, though both these States have asked to increase the extent to 30,000 km, Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas said here on Saturday. Addressing a meeting of the corporation employees and officials at the KSRTC bus-stand here, Mr. Thomas said while the KSRTC was charging 48 paise per km, the transport authorities of the other two States were charging only 28 paise per km. “Such differences in rates can later become a problem for us and so we are yet to take a decision on renewing contracts on the extent of these inter-State services,” he said.

With the KSRTC looking at ways to cut expenses and prop up its revenue, commercial complexes were being planned at prime spots in 30 places across the State.
