“CPI(M) too always prepared for polls”

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) too is “always prepared for elections,” Biman Bose, secretary of the party’s West Bengal Committee, said here on Sunday.

The reaction follows Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s reported statement in New Delhi on Saturday that her party was not concerned about the prospects of a snap poll.

“However, at present we [the CPI(M) leadership] are busy with preparations for the party conference,” Mr. Bose said.

On the visit of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to the residence of veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu on Sunday, Mr. Bose said it was a “courtesy call.”

Mr. Bose said his and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s presence at Mr. Basu’s residence was co-incidental.
