NEW DELHI: G. N. Gopal continued his good run by holding fifth seeded Briton Gawain Jones in a battle lasting 80 moves in the fourth round of the World junior chess championship at Yerevan, Armenia, on Saturday. With the top five boards ending in draws, Gopal continued to share the fourth spot at three points, half a point behind three leaders. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy scored his third straight victory after facing Kazakhstan’s Maxat Alaguzov but GM Parimarjan Negi blundered his way to defeat against 10th seeded Russian GM Dmitry Andreikin in 43 moves. On the lower boards, Aswin Jayaram and Abhijeet Gupta scored over lower rated rivals. Karavade holds GuramishviliAmong the girls, Woman Grandmaster Eesha Karavade agreed to a short 18-move draw on the second board against fellow overnight joint leader Sopiko Guramishvili of Georgia. Eesha now has 3.5 points. Russia’s Vera Nebolsina and Germany’s Sarah Hoolt share the lead with four points. The results (fourth round, involving Indians): Open: G. N.
