Six injured in clashes

Thiruvananthapuram: Tension prevailed for over five hours at Vattiyoorkavu junction on Sunday following clashes and stone throwing between CPI(M) and RSS activists.

According to the police, an altercation between Rajesh, an RSS activist, and Sreejith and Renjith, CPI(M) activists, led to the clashes. The house of Sreejith was attacked and his mother Vijayam suffered injuries. In retaliation, CPI(M) branch secretary Sahmsheer was attacked.

Six of the injured had been admitted to the Government Hospital, Peroorkada, and General Hospital.

A police team led by the Circle Inspector, Peroorakada, M. Radhakrishnan Nair rushed to the spot and bought the situation under control. RSS and CPI (M) leaders intervened to restore peace.

The Vattiyoorkavu police arrested six persons and registered three cases in this regard.
