BANGALORE: As the rock band Mother Jane enthralled the Bangalore crowds with its hit numbers, a new group of musicians emerged to claim the coveted “Kingfisher Bangalore Rocks 2007” prize. Grabbing the trophy, the band “Slain” marched to the podium in style. The Great Indian October Fest 2007 had just entered its final moment of glory. The band “Extinct Reflection” was adjudged the runner-up.

Many cheered on as a band from the contest’s Kerala-leg performed for over 45 minutes. The packed Palace Grounds venue had the right atmosphere to get the band members sizzle on stage. The mood was perfect, the setting just right for Mother Jane, the 1996-born progressive metal group from Kochi to take centre stage.

For Mother Jane, it was fame revisited as the crowd realised just why the group was rated high. In November 2002, Mother Jane’s debut album titled “Insane Biography” had created waves, being chosen as the “Best Indian Rock Album: 2002-03” at the June Rock Out festival.

Mother Jane’s song Mindstreet was chosen for the GIR compilation album 2003 and the band was selected to perform at the biggest platform in the country — Levi’s Great Indian Rock 2003.

Mindstreet was also featured on U.S. Radio in a play-list boasting of rock heavyweights such as Rush and Genesis. Mother Jane’s album, “Insane Biography”, then became the only Indian Rock album to be featured in the Asian Rock Rising Festival in Japan on November 1, 2003.

The festival had its share of fun, fashion, a formula one car on display, many more vintage cars, and a promise of much more fun next year. It also featured a fashion show choreographed by Rahul Dev Shetty.
