Linesman suffers burns while on duty

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A linesman working for Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) suffered severe burns after he suffered an electric shock while repairing a transformer on Victoria Hospital premises here on Sunday.

The linesman Balraj (28), a resident of Nelamangala, was an employee of BESCOM’s Mazdoor Gang.

He had climbed the transformer to fix a fault following disruption of power in the hospital.

He was under the impression that there was no power supply, the police said.

His brother, Narasimha, a co-worker, came to his rescue.

Narasimha switched off the power supply from the board and pulled Balraj down with the help of his clothes.

By the time, Balraj’s legs and an arm had been fully burnt and the bones were visible, eye-witnesses said.

Balraj was administered first aid at the hospital before being admitted to another hospital.

He has suffered 90 per cent burns. The Victoria Hospital police have registered a case.
