NEW DELHI: A technical committee that inspected the Blueline bus that mowed down seven persons at Badarpur here on Sunday has found that its speed governor had been electronically tampered with. At a press conference, State Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf said the technical committee which conducted an inspection of the bus found a special switch attached to the speed governor. Though the seal of the gadget -- meant to prevent drivers from speeding above the permitted 40 kmph -- was intact, but a switch had been attached to it to switch it off at will. Mr. Yusuf said the bus driver did not have an authorisation card mandatory for driving Blueline buses. He said the permit of the bus was cancelled without serving any show-cause notice to the owner. In normal cases, the bus owner is granted 10 days to reply to a show-cause notice. While earlier permits of buses involved in at least two fatal accidents were cancelled, rules were recently amended bringing it down to one fatal accident, he added. Deputy Commissioner (South) Rajiv Kale has been asked to probe the accident and submit a report within two days. As for phasing out of the killer-buses, Mr. Yusuf said they would be removed by 2010. He said there were plans to fit Global Positioning System in buses, which would help in keeping a close track of the vehicles on the Capital’s roads.
