3 alleged criminals handed over to Bangladesh
Haroon Habib
DHAKA: Three alleged criminals wanted by the Bangladesh police were handed over to Bangladesh authorities by the Kolkata police.
The three were members of the ‘Kala Jahangir’ group of Dhaka and were reportedly responsible for crimes such as extortion and murder in the capital. They are wanted in about 50 cases filed with different police stations here.
The Kolkata police arrested them in March and August. They were jailed for illegal intrusion into India.
“As there is no extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh, West Bengal’s CID contacted the Bangladeshi CID police and agreed to deport the three from India and hand them over to the Bangladesh police,” said the CID chief, Additional Inspector-General Fani Bhushan Chowdhury.
A team of the Indian police, led by Additional Superintendent Swapan Saha, handed over the three to the BSF which then passed them to the BDR in the no man’s land and the BDR then handed them to Bangladesh’s CID.
