CELEBRATIONS: At the Hindi Diwas function at Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan in Bangalore. BANGALORE: The science club of Siddhartha Public School, RT Nagar, hosted an inter-school science fair recently. Chairman of the school Sriramulu inaugurated the fair. He went round the exhibition hall and was amazed at the talent on show. Children from primary section exhibited models of windmill, various parts of human body and other interesting models. The middle school children displayed models of volcano, satellite and anemometer. Headmistress Sumangala congratulated all the participants and encouraged them to bring glory to their schools by participating in such exhibitions. When the interest in basic sciences among students is on the wane, it was the responsibility of the schools to conduct more science-based programmes, she remarked. Hindi DiwasSpeeches, quiz competition and group songs were part of the Hindi Diwas celebrations at Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan, Rajarajeshwari Nagar. A student spoke on the importance of Hindi as the official language of the country. He said that on September 14, 1949 Hindi was proclaimed as the official language of Independent India. The students celebrated the day with enthusiasm. The programme began with the reading of verses from Rama Charita Manas, a work by poet Goswami Tulsidas. Group songs, Meera bhajans and poetry recitation followed later. The programme concluded with a play dated during Akbar’s period. Sports dayThe lower kindergarten sports day of MES KKPS, Vidyaranyapura, was held recently. V. Ranganayaki, principal, Subha Rao College, who was the chief guest, gave away the medals as well as certificates to the winners. Novel competitions such as filling water bottle with cupped hands, bits of paper and bursting the balloon were held. Dhruti and Tejas Hegde proposed a vote of thanks. The Hindu NIE Team
