Life in the times of letters

Philatelic exhibitions and letter writing competitions marked the 133rd World Post Day celebrations in the State on Tuesday. The day is observed on October 9 every year to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital of Bern. It was also a day for many citizens to nostalgically recall the time when there was no Internet, e-mail or text messaging. Long distance communication was mostly through letters and postmen were welcome visitors in households across the country.

The Department of Posts continues to play an important role in the life of many citizens.
