VIZIANAGARAM: Non-residetial tax payers have resented the Government’s revised orders instructing municipalities to hike 100 per cent tax for over 25 years old non-residential constructions and 150 per cent for those below 25 years old structures.
At the awareness meeting organised by Vizianagaram Chamber of Commerce here on Tuesday, trader after trader suggested that the tax hike be levied after a survey and also on the basis of income one earns in a year instead of burdening one and all with a uniform tax policy.
Stir threatened
They said that an easy way without burdening them must be evolved.
They even threatened to launch an agitation. The Chamber president V.V. Kasi Viswanadham and local MLA Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy were present.
The MLA said that levying non-residential tax was a state policy.
Hence, he would discuss their problem with the local minister and also submit a representation to the Chief Minister for consideration.
It may be recalled that the government in the draft proposal proposed a uniform hike of 140 per cent.
There are 8,452 non-residential establishments in the town.
