“We need to provide result-oriented officers”

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand Governor Sudarshan Agarwal on Tuesday urged the Union and State Public Service Commissions to act as agents of change, good governance and effective administration so that the nation could develop into a power of social and economic justice. Inaugurating the first National Seminar of Chairpersons of State Public Service Commissions here, Mr. Agarwal said that besides being just, honest and upright, the members these Commissions should work out an effective system to redress the grievances of candidates. “India is developing at a fast pace and the onus of providing result-oriented officers lies on your shoulders.”

Expressing concern over the bad reputation brought to the credibility of the Commissions by a few persons, Mr. Agarwal said it was very unfortunate that a few rotten fish had polluted the waters.

He wanted the Commission officials to remember the loss that would be caused by selecting men of dubious credibility for such jobs. Union Public Service Commission Chairman Subir Dutta said meritocracy, impartiality and goal orientation were essential features of any administration.

Lt. Gen. (Retd) M.C. Bhandari, Chairman of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, welcomed the guests and M.S. Pandit, Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission, proposed a vote of thanks.
