dated October 10, 1957: Sale of lions

The Bombay Government have fixed the price of lions and lion cubs to be supplied to zoo administration, municipalities and private parties. The price is Rs.1,000 for a cub under one year, Rs.1,500 for a cub over one year but below two years and Rs.2,500 for an animal over two years. A press note issued in Bombay said these prices include trapping and feeding charges at the average rate of Rs.500 per animal for a month. Parties wishing to purchase lions may have to deposit Rs.1,000 to meet the expenses for trapping, feeding, etc. of the animals.
