Indian doctor loses race for WMA chief post

New Delhi: Indian doctor Ketan Desai has lost out in the race for the president of the World Medical Association (WMA) with Israeli medico Yoram Blachar being elected to the post.

The WMA is an umbrella organisation of 84 national medical associations around the world and represents about nine million physicians worldwide. Besides Dr. Desai and Dr. Blachar, a New Zealander contested for the post.

Honorary secretary-general of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Vinay Aggarwal said India would field a candidate next year also. — PTI
